In fact, International House was the first organization to create a training course specifically for English as a Foreign Language teachers. The first International House Certificate in 1962 formed the basis for the current Cambridge ESOL CELTA qualification. For this reason the IH name is widely respected in the field of language teaching and those that have trained with IH are widely sought after by employers.

Requirements all candidates

High School Diploma (Some post-secondary studies preferred) (University Degree necessary to receive TESL Canada Professional Level 1 status for teaching in Canada)

20 years old

Bachelor’s degree
Initial English teaching certificate such as the CELTA or equivalent (TEFL Canada Level 1 certification)
One year full-time teaching of English as a Foreign Language.
20 years old or over

High School Diploma (University Degree necessary to receive TESL Canada Professional Level 1 status for teaching in Canada)

19 years old

high level of competence in spoken and written English

Native Japanese speaker (part of the course is taught in Japanese)

18 years old
