IHC Online
A truly unique and practical online initial teacher training program
The first online course that meets the IH stamp of approval.
The IHC online is designed for candidates who:
- have little or no teaching experience and want a recognized qualification.
- are English teachers already but would like or are required to obtain a recognized qualification. You can continue working while you take the course and use your own classes for your assessed lessons.
- experienced teachers who would like to develop their language teaching skills.

ORIENTATION COURSE |
- Can be completed online or at special organized sessions in Vancouver or other cities
- Introduces candidates to the course
- Allows candidates the oppotunity to meet with each either online or in person and to begin the process of collaboration
- Provides input from an experienced IHC tutor

The course requires a minimum 140 hours of commitment over 3 to 9 months. It is important to consider you own learning style and your enviroment to ensure you will be able to complete the course.
Over 9 months, candidates will need to complete 4 to 5 hours of work on the course each week.

INPUT SESSIONS |
- Core course materials delivered over an online virtual learning environment
- 9 separate units with corresponding reading, assessed and unassessed tasks and assignments to enhance understanding
- Delicated learning platform for candidates to share and discuss, monitored by and experienced tutor

TEACHING PRACTICE |
- Plan, teach and writie a reflection of all assessed lessons
- Observations completed by local supervisor, with reports sent to the course tutor
- Video observation option also available
- Integration of teaching practice with all other components of the course

- Online (video) and real-class observations
- Online observations included with study modules to enhance learning aims
- Real-class observations can be arranged at your own school nearby

- 4 written assignments integraed into course modules
- All assignments reviewed and assessed by IHC tutors

What help can I expect over the course?
You will have a dedicated IHC tutor for the length of your course. You will also be part of study group (maximum 12 participants) in a virtual learning enviroment that is monitored by your tutor. There is also a course coordinator available for assistance as required. Your local supervisor will be able to offer you advice and support and will observe your teaching practice |

Who is the local supervisor?
All participants can choose an experienced and qualified teacher as their local supervisor. This person should have experience working in teacher development or teacher training, be working in the same school or nearby, be willing to spend 2-3 hours each month observing your teaching and be able to write reports on eight of your lessons to be sent to the course tutor.
